Transcultural representations

Images of Europe and Europeans in contemporary European popular culture

This work package aims to foster awareness about the role of popular culture in shaping social perceptions of Europe and European identity, as well as to encourage the development of engaging narrative formats made to enhance the values of diversity, mobility and transcultural exchange in the constitution of European identity.

WP6 has the following objectives:

To provide a critical analysis of how European transcultural identity is represented in contemporary European cultural production in the genre of crime narratives, with particular attention to the transformations occurring in the representation of social, ethnic and gendered identities;

To provide a critical analysis of how mobility factors impact the representation of social, ethnic and gendered identities in contemporary European cultural production in the field of crime narratives, with particular attention to emerging or changing identities, conceived as “transidentities”;

To experiment “emergent learning” techniques to transfer knowledge about the significance of emerging narrative formats and formulas for the representation of European culture and society in popular media.
